Residents from the Jewish Israeli village of Kamoun filed a petition to the High Court on July 6, 2006, demanding, among other things, that the Arab Shahade family be re-located from their home in Kamoun to a neighboring Arab village called Kammaneh.
According to a report by Adalah, the Shahade family has been living in Kamoun since the 19th century but have been unable to secure building permits from the Israeli government.

Arabs make up around 20% of Israel's population. A small segment of this population is represented by the Bedouins in the Negev Desert who live in villages that are unrecognized by the Israeli government.
