Interested in becoming a part of the AELME.org team? Great. We need your help as we try to build an effective and influential organization.

There are two ways to help AELME.org. One is to become directly involved in the collection, presentation, and dissemination of information regarding the cases featured on this website. The other, if you do not have the time to be directly involved, is to enable others to do this work on your behalf. You may help in the second way by supporting this website with a donation by clicking here. If you would like to be directly involved, please continue reading below.

Currently, there are two projects underway which must be completed before the website can be considered comprehensive and useful:

1) Building a database of profiles. We need your help in gathering, sorting, and presenting as much information as possible regarding as many political prisoners in the Middle East as possible. Before we can start contacting politicians, we must be well informed and have a solid foundation from which to draw ideas. To contribute in this way, simply create a user account on the right menu and then click on "Create Content" once you've logged in. Be sure to read the submission guidelines (they will appear at the top of the page) for advice on how to organize your piece before posting. It may also be helpful to take a look at a few examples for an idea of how your submission should look: check out the profiles on Dr. Kamal al-Labwani, Michel Kilo, Dr. Idrees Mohamed Boufayed, Kareem Amer, and the Shahade Family in Kamoun, Israel.

2) Connecting profiles to politicians. This project is equally important. While simply being a reliable resource for information on current political detainees, we would also like to be a mini-virtual army of activists who focus the spotlight on politicians that turn a blind eye to tyranny. In order to do this, we need to have a database of contact information for current leaders of Congress. As of January 27th, 2007, users may add contacts to the website by logging in and clicking on "Create Contact" on the user menu on the right. In the meantime, please only add the following types of contacts: 1) leaders of the United States Senate; 2) leaders of the United States House of Representatives; 3) foreign ambassadors to the United States; 4) foreign heads of state. Please make sure to verify spelling and contact information when you post it.
